Talks and Courses
The trustees run a selection of talks and courses, which are designed to be both educational and entertaining, but support the trust at the same time.
Talks
Our talks are delivered by Alan, who has over 10 years experience delivering talks about our work at TVM in the North Midlands area. The talks are designed to be both engaging and educational, with Alan's expert knowledge guiding you through footage taken by ourselves at the reserve.
The format of our talks runs as follows:
- An introduction by Alan: 10 mins
- A film containing footage taken from the reserve: 30/60 mins (an inteval can be incorperated into the hour long films, if this is desired)
- Conclusion, and Questions and Answers: 15 mins+

Please note: The listed times are for the film only, and do not include the introduction or Q+A section.
Living with Nature by Day and by Night
60 mins
Updated for 2024!
Living with Nature by Day and by Night is the story of TVM; starting with the planting of the first tree in 2002 all the way through to the present day. Viewers will follow how we developed TVM with plenty of footage of the reserve and it's inhabitants.
Living with Barn Owls
60 mins
Ideal for groups specifically interested in these majestic birds or as a follow up to Living with Nature, Living with Barn Owls follows a pair of Barn Owls over a year as they raise their young on the reserve. The talk, featuring nest box footage of some of the most intimate moments of these birds' lives, is full of information about the Barn Owls' day to day lives and how we can help this now endangered species to thrive once more.
In Nature, it's Habitat that Holds the Key
30 mins
New for 2021, this talk examines our wetland area over the course of a summer, from birds and amphibians, to dragonflies and small mammals. This talk is ideal for groups who desire a shorter session.
We change £75 plus travel expenses of 45p/mile (from Foston, Derbyshire). We have all our own equipment, however for this reason we require access to the venue at minimum 45 mins before the start of the session to allow setup and testing of our equipment and display boards.
If you are at all interested in finding out more about our talks, please get in
